Please Watch this! Stanford Prison Experiment

Please watch the documentary below. It is 29 minutes.

After watching the documentary above, please consider and reflect below on what we can take from the Stanford Prison Experiment that might cause you to interpret and/or reinterpret Steve Harmon's conceptual identity. Does the study cause you to think about Steve's situation differently? Why or Why not?
How might Myer's podcast on writing and race be connected to this video? What connections can you make to the book Monster?

In the comment section below take a few minutes to reflect on what you have heard and seen in relation to the reading of Monster.

DIRECTIONS FOR LITERATURE GROUP DISCUSSIONS THIS WEEK

Below is a power point of the directions for the required discussion for your literature groups this week.   If you have any questions, please let me know.

Literature Group #1: Tony Cadott, Greta Kesselring, Jennifer Kieren, and Jori Healy

This week you will be assigned a character from Monster.  Please check your email to know which character you have been assigned.  This character is to be kept a secret from the other members of your group.  Your job is to consider the conceptual identity of the character you have been assigned.  Remember a conceptual identity consists roughly of TWO parts.  The first part is the "image" or "idea" that you have of yourself and the world around you, the second part is formed by the "images" or "ideas" that others have of you

With this in mind you are invited to create a "visual image" of the conceptual identity of the character you have been assigned.   This visual image can be a video, audio, picture (s) or a combination of all three.  You can put this together as a collage, as a power point, a power point of visuals put to music, a short youtube video, a music video, let your imagination go wild.  I want you to have fun putting this together.

Just remember the purpose of the "visual image" is to convey the conceptual identity of the character you have been assigned.

Please include the following in your "visual image"
1) Shoes that this character might wear. You have probably heard the proverb, "Don't criticize a man until you have walked a mile in his shoes."  This is what I want you to do in this project-walk a mile in your character's shoes.

2) At least 4 artifacts that the character might have saved. Sometimes it is in the items that we choose to save that tells us the most about a person.

3) A container that the character might have stored these 4 artifacts for safe keeping.

4) Music they might have listened to.  This could be the actual music, lyrics or simply just the title and artist.

5 Symbols that could be associated with your character

Please have your "visual image" posted before Saturday, April 28.   After all have been posted carefully view and consider what your literature group members have created.  Can you guess which character they are trying represent?  Take a guess and give each member some feedback.  Point out things you liked/valued and comments/questions that you have about the piece.

Please post your "visual image" on your literature groups blog.  Click on the link below to take you to your literature groups blog.
